This is a track from Ma and Pa Hodge singing in the kitchen. Recording pulled from a stack of cassettes in the basement. They singing the old gospel “I’ll Fly Away”, just like they’ve always done in places like Kentucky or across Appalachia. Some fuzz in the feedback, but touching to hear their voices.
Check out Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee killing it on “Red River Blues” and “Crow Jane,” two of the oldest known pieces in the Piedmont blues repetoire.
